Seven places to eat across San Pedro, Mahogany Bay and Secret Beach, with popular dishes, meal prices and practical details for planning your next stop.
A few pork tacos before heading out. Jerk chicken with rice and beans when you get hungry again. Lunch at a table in the water on your Secret Beach day.
Eating on Ambergris Caye can be one of the best parts of the trip without taking up most of the budget. The trick is knowing a few places near where you’re spending the day—and which orders to look for when you arrive.
We’ve put together five affordable stops around San Pedro and Mahogany Bay, followed by two beachfront options at Secret Beach.
All prices below are in Belize dollars. BZ$20 equals US$10. Drinks are additional.
Three of our stops are downtown, making it easy to fit breakfast or lunch around shopping, errands or a walk through town.
Neri’s keeps breakfast simple: small pork tacos, chopped onion and as many as you’re hungry for. The tacos get regular mentions in local food coverage and visitor recommendations, with stuffed fry jacks another favourite.
Popular dish: Pork breakfast tacos.
Price guide: About BZ$0.75 each, or BZ$3.75 for five.
Where: Downtown, beside Big Taste.
Good to know: Bring cash. These are small tacos, so order several.
Next door, Big Taste is a good reason to come back at lunchtime. The queso birria tacos arrive with consommé for dipping, and Tuesday’s special adds an extra taco to the order.
Popular dish: Queso birria tacos.
Price guide: Four for BZ$20, before GST.
Another option: Chicken or beef tacos, four for BZ$16, before GST.
Where: Beside Neri’s, around the corner from El Fogón.
Good to know: Tuesday’s birria special is five tacos for the price of four. GST is added to the menu prices.
When you want to sit down and take your time, head to Pupuseria Salvadoreño on Middle Street. Its thick corn cakes come filled, cooked on a griddle and served with curtido and salsa. Order a few different fillings; jalapeño and cheese gets a particular nod from a recent visitor.
Popular dish: Pupusas.
Filling to try: Jalapeño and cheese.
Price guide: Around BZ$4 each, or BZ$12 for three.
Where: Pescador Drive, also called Middle Street.
Good to know: Bring cash. You can order individually and add another if you’re still hungry.
If you’re staying south of San Pedro, you don’t need to head downtown for every meal. These next two stops cover a chicken lunch and a café breakfast or sandwich in Mahogany Bay.
Robin’s jerk chicken earns repeated praise from diners. With rice and beans and slaw alongside, it’s one of the strongest full-plate options in this guide.
Popular dish: Jerk chicken.
Price guide: About BZ$16 for a plate.
Where: Sea Grape Drive, south of downtown.
Good to know: Bring cash and allow time for cooking. Go earlier for a better selection; diners report that dishes can run out later.
The Farmhouse makes it easy to have breakfast or pick up lunch while you’re in Mahogany Bay. Its chipotle chicken sandwich gets positive diner mentions and is also among the items founder Daniel Dargel says customers particularly enjoy.
Popular dish: Chipotle chicken sandwich, with chicken, bacon, cheese, avocado and chipotle mayo.
Price guide: About BZ$22.
Breakfast options: Breakfast croissant BZ$20, or toasted bagel with cream cheese BZ$10.
Where: Inside Mahogany Bay.
Good to know: Coffee is extra. The bagel is the lower-cost choice for a light breakfast.

For a Secret Beach outing, lunch becomes part of the afternoon: a swim, something to eat, then back into the water. Give that day a little more room in the budget than a taco breakfast downtown.
Pirates and Sunset Palace both put you on the beachfront, with different reasons to stop.
Pirates is immediately right of the Secret Beach sign, so it’s easy to find when you arrive. There are shaded tables in the water and loungers on shore. Positive food reviews single out the lionfish dishes, along with simpler orders such as chicken tenders and fries.
Popular dish: Lionfish dishes, including tacos when available.
Another order to consider: Chicken burger with fries.
Where: First bar to the right of the main Secret Beach sign.
Good to know: The restaurant advertises complimentary loungers and inner tubes for customers. Ask about availability when you settle in.
Pirates belongs here as a beachfront alternative rather than one of our lowest-priced meals. Look over the food and drink menu before choosing your spot, especially if you’re staying for several rounds.
Continue south past Blue Bayou to reach Sunset Palace. You’ll find loungers and tables in the water here too, and nachos are a recurring recommendation from diners.
Popular dish: Nachos.
Price guide: Approximately BZ$20 for chicken, BZ$22 for beef or BZ$25 for shrimp.
Another option: Four crunchy tacos—chicken BZ$22, fish BZ$26 or shrimp BZ$28.
Where: On the southern beachfront, beyond Blue Bayou.
Good to know: The photographed menu states that general sales tax is included.
At those prices, chicken nachos and four fish tacos total BZ$46, or US$23, before drinks and gratuity. That gives two people a couple of dishes to share without leaving the beach.
Once you’ve found a breakfast spot and somewhere for a filling lunch, eating on the island gets much easier. You can return for another order of tacos, try a different pupusa filling or stop at The Farmhouse on a morning in Mahogany Bay. On your beach day, leave time to sit down and enjoy lunch where you are.
Three details will help keep the bill where you expect it:
Carry cash for Neri’s, Pupuseria Salvadoreño and Robin’s.
Check the currency and tax. This guide uses BZ dollars throughout; Big Taste adds GST.
Include drinks in your budget. Check their prices before ordering a round, especially at the beach.
Price guide reviewed October 2026 using menus, menu photographs and diner reports. Some reports date to 2025; the Sunset Palace menu photograph is undated. Figures are planning references and may change.
